Here are some handy hints and information to help you when you use the Métro.
Be discrete! Don't show off things- like jewelry or cameras - which would tempt thieves.

Note how all the women carry their handbags
in front of them.
- Beware of pickpockets on the
Métro. Stations and trains are crowded and thieves are very clever. Put your wallet/purse in a very safe place. Avoid carrying it in a hip pocket. If possible, put it in an inside pocket. Better still, have two purses, with the accessible one only having about $10 or $20 in it and no credit cards.
- Ensure that the outer pockets of your backpack contain items of little value. It is more secure to put your backpack in front of you. Padlocks on backpacks just shout out for attention.
- Avoid using a "showy" handbag. Keep it in your hands in front of you at all times.
- Ensure that you travel with
someone late at night, especially if heading for the terminals which tend to be quieter than city centre stations.
- Make sure that you do not become
separated from companions and left behind on the platform alone. This is a favourite ploy with pickpockets. They will aim to walk in between you and your partner and then not let you through. Escalators, lifts and train doors are the favourite spot for this game
