Lyon

Deuxième ville de la France. Un centre important depuis les jours des Romains, situé stratégiquement au confluent de la Saône et du Rhône.

Ici est née l’industrie cinémato-graphique, avec les frères Lumière. Autrefois, la ville était le centre de l’industrie de soie en France.

The second city of France. An important centre since the Roman era due to its strategic position on the confluence of the rivers Saône and Rhône.

It was here that the film industry was born, with the Lumière brothers. In the past, the city was the centre of the silk industry in France.

Marseille

Fondé au VIe siècle avant JC par des colons grecs. A l’époque romaine, c’était un grand centre du commerce méditerranéen.

La ville est devenue la grande métropole française qui donne sur la Méditerranée. C’est le port d’arrivée et un centre de nombreux immigrants, c’est la ville la plus cosmopolite de la France.

This city was founded initially by the Phoenicians, then in the 6th century BC (BCE) by Greek colonists. During the Roman era, it was a huge trading centre for the Mediterranean area. It became the biggest French provincial town which was the gateway to the Mediterranean. It the port of arrival into France and a centre for a large number of immigrants. It is the most multi-cultural town in France.

Dit le « La huitième merveille » du monde, cette abbaye médiévale posée sur une roche sur un îlot, entourée des marées parmi les plus hautes est les plus rapides du monde ……ça vaut la peine d’y aller.

Monter l’île à pied – l’auto est défendue! et voir les ruelles étroites, les anciennes maisons, et l’abbaye célèbre.

Called « the 8th wonder of the world », this medieval abbey is perched on a rock, on a little island, surrounded by seas that have the highest and swiftest tides in the world ….it’s certainly worth a visit!

Climb the island on foot – cars are forbidden entry – and see the little narrow streets, the ancient houses and the wonderful abbey.

C’est une station balnéaire, qui se situe dans le sud de la France, près de la frontière italienne.

Sa plage (de galets, bien sur !) est recherchée par les chic, les BOBOs et les BCBGs. Tu peux y t’amuser avec les gens snob à la plage de galets.

Et en février allez à son carnaval.

Its beach (of stones believe it or not!) is highly sought after by the smart set, the trendy and the rich. You can enjoy yourself with the « in crowd » on the pebbly beach And in February, you can go to its famous Spring Carnival of Flowers.

L’aqueduc qui se trouve ici est construit par les Romains pour rendre l’eau aux grandes villes de Nîmes et d’Arles en l’an 40.
C’est le plus grand aqueduc d’Europe

The aqueduct that is located over the River Gard was built by the Romans to bring water to the big towns of Nîmes and Arles in 40 AD (CE). It is the biggest aqueduct in Europe

Centre de l’industrie aérospatiale d’où viennent l’avion « Concorde », les fusées européennes « Ariane » et de nos jours, l’airbus.

Dit « la ville rose », car beaucoup de ses bâtiments sont construits de pierre rose.

The aero-space centre for Europe, from which came the faster than sound plane « Concorde », the « Ariane » European space rockets and most recently the airbus.

It is known as « the pink city», since most of its buildings were built from the local pink stone.

C’est une belle ville historique dans le sud qui date de l’époque romaine.

Connue pour ses arènes (bien sur on les utilise toujours!) ses ruines romaines et ses courses de taureaux où on ne tue pas le taureau.

A beautiful historic town in the South, dating from the Roman era.

It is known for its enormous amphitheatre (still in daily use), its Roman ruins and its bull fights where the bull is not killed.

Une vielle ville dans le nord, qui a un prestige considérable comme « capitale de l’industrie champenoise ».

Tu peux y boire du champagne dans un des fameux caves de la région et visiter la belle cathédrale.

A very old town in the North, which owes its prestige to being the capital of the champagne industry.

You can sample your champagne in one of the famous cellars in the area and visit the beautiful cathedral.

Strasbourg

Situé au carrefour du Rhin et des routes vers l’Allemagne. D’origine allemande, elle est devenue française en 1661, puis était annexée par l’Allemagne en 1870, rendue aux Français en 1918, redevenue allemande en 1939, avant d’être libérée en 1944 !

Centre industriel et connu pour les vins de la région. La cathédrale possède une horloge astronomique qui est fascinante.

Voir la belle cathédrale, réfléchir au monument aux morts franco-allemands, et visiter le tribunal européen.

Located on the crossroads of the river Rhine and roads leading to Germany. Originally German, Strasbourg became French in 1661, was taken back by Germany in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, returned to France in 1918, became German once again in 1939, and eventually liberated in 1944 !

It’s an industrial centre and known for its Alsace wines. The cathedral has an old astronomical clock which is remarkable.

See the beautiful old cathedral, at mid-day for the clock performance, pause for a while by the Franco-German war memorial, and visit the European Parliament.

Située dans l’ouest vingt-cinq pour cent de ses habitants sont étudiants! Cette ville est célèbre à cause de son parc d’attractions du futur, qui s’appelle « Futuroscope »

Located in the West of France, 25% of its population are students! However, this town is best known for its theme park of the future, called « Futuroscope »

C’est un petit port de pêche dans le sud, en Provence, qui est devenu très snob et recherché par les vedettes et les prétentieux.
Prends un petit café ou un pastis dans la place entourée de platanes. On vient ici pour remarquer les autres et pour qu’ils te remarquent!

This little fishing port in the South, in Provence, has become the trendy resort of the rich, the famous and the « wannabes ».
Drink a coffee or a pastis in a café in the town square which is surrounded by plane trees. You come here not just to see others, but for them to see you!
